Some DFS implementations, for example 106.5MHz, work much better from a 15MHz source reference than from 10MHz. Coincidentally, some of the more recent GPS locked kit to come out of commercial service provides a 15MHz output. An example of such equipment is the Lucent RFTG-m-XO/Rb pair. Other later Lucent kit also provides this 15MHz signal locked to GPS.
For those who already have a 10MHz source, this Frequency Converter derives a clean 15MHz signal locked to the 10MHz GPS (or OCXO). This gives a simple method of meeting the input requirements of the 106.5MHz DFS and and others which work better from 15MHz. The result is a cleaner mixing/dividing process, which results in less potential spurii in the final output signal.
